Ash
HVDSA member Red has written some great poetry, check it out!
Ash
By Red
Ash in the air
Blood on tongues
Motherspeech and blasted lands
We hold ourselves
Cocoons of plasticine
Ambrosia within
Concrete catacombs
Our nests well tended
For dandelions wrath
Claims all old tombs in time
And palest root grasps
Through toxic terrain
And poisoned waters
My leaves are rough
Leather and lace
But they brush yours
And it’s still satin
An evening lake
Ice cubes like diamonds
In rotgut whiskey
And lemonade
A laugh that lives in forests
Runs along the brook
Whispers in every hollow
Take your joy in bloody fists, child
And carry your family
In face and deed
For our feet strike the earth
Just as loudly
And we know this dance
So join the chorus, meet the tempo
And show them how it’s done.
